For adolescents (between the ages of 13 to 25) I usually see both the adolescent and the parent or carer at the initial assessment. Sometimes older adolescents prefer to be seen alone and in these circumstances I will always speak with their parents prior to assessment. Following our assessment I think together with the young person and their family about what type of treatment would be best: individual, family, parent support or a combination of all three.
